What delicate baby skin needs

The skin of a newborn child is sensitive and permeable, and experiences additional strain from environmental factors such as cold, UV radiation in the summer and dry heating air in the winter – it is therefore essential to use gentle and effective baby care products. A baby's thin skin reacts quickly and is irritated by pollutants in the environment, and also ingredients in care products. That is why there are specially formulated ranges of care products for young skin. The formulas in NIVEA baby care products are therefore designed to provide moisture and good protection. A gentle care formula protects against allergic reactions, supporting and promoting the skin’s natural regeneration and ability to retain moisture. The right baby care for baby skin is adapted to these characteristics and thus provides the best possible protection.

The foundation for healthy baby skin: proper baby care

For healthy skin, it is critical to provide the right care from the outset. Special baby care products meet all the requirements of baby skin. Use a cream on your baby’s skin when it appears dry. Apply thin layers of creams and lotions frequently. Gentle massage promotes blood circulation of the skin and the parent-child bond is strengthened. Protect your child from the sun's rays with an appropriate sunscreen. Generally, babies should not be exposed to direct sunlight. As soon as you step outside with the pram or spend time together outdoors, it is of the utmost importance to ensure you include sun protection products, a sun shade for the pram and a hat to your baby’s care routine. Bathe your child once or twice a week and use a particularly gentle bubble bath. Dry the sensitive baby skin thoroughly after bathing and apply a moisturising oil, cream or lotion milk specially formulated for babies to your baby's skin. Because even moisturising washing lotions and bubble baths dry the skin out.

The nappy region: a sensitive area

A baby's nappy area requires special attention. This area is not exposed to the air and the skin is subject to strong irritants which cause your baby to develop a red bottom, irritated skin or nappy rash. Frequently changing your baby’s nappy and exposing the skin in that area to the air guarantees the best protection against an inflamed nappy area – and of course proper baby care. Gentle and thorough cleansing, for example with a wash cloth soaked in warm water or with gentle wipes, supports regeneration, while rubbing in special wound protective creams afterwards prevent the skin from becoming inflamed in the nappy area. A skin-friendly pH value, good compatibility with the skin and a gentle care formula are crucial for all baby care products.
